Buxted

The CRT owns two parcels of land in the picturesque village of Buxted. They were given to the CRT in 2000 from Mary Thorley by Deed of Gift with the purpose of holding back developers from the centre of her beloved village.

There is a small paddock oasis in between a large housing estate and the local village church. This meadow is highly sought after by developers, but whilst in the CRT ownership it shall remain as it is for the local people and wildlife to enjoy.

Elsewhere in the village we have a small paddock with a strip of woodland housing the most magnificent Bluebells and the wildlife.

Tools empower people

Winter feeding makes the difference

Farmland bird remain among the most threatened species in this country and their decline is nothing short of cataclysmic. Intensive agriculture has contributed to habitat loss, but at Lark Rise in Cambridgeshire our nature-friendly approach to farming and supplementary feeding over winter have helped ensure we buck many national statistics for farmland birds.

Slow-worms – the gardener’s best friend

The UK has 6 native reptile species including the curious slow-worm (Anguis fragilis). Although serpent-like in appearance, slow-worms are in fact limbless lizards and an amazing example of de-evolution.
