It was with great sadness that the Countryside Regeneration Trust learned of the passing of our co-founder, Robin Page. Without his campaigning and unyielding passion for the natural world, the CRT would not be championing biodiversity alongside farming, which we continue to do almost 30 years after our creation.

By establishing the CRT alongside the late artist and conservationist Gordon Beningfield, Robin was very much a man ahead of his time. Long before the idea of regenerative farming was a widely recognised phrase, he understood the need to find ways to farm commercially but still allow nature and wildlife to flourish.

His forthright views on conservation and biodiversity pushed this important subject into the limelight, and by writing about his beliefs in publications such as the Daily Telegraph he was able to engage the power of like-minded individuals like you to launch this charity. For these efforts and foresight, we will always be grateful.

Many of the CRT’s staff have worked closely with Robin and we wish to pass on our deepest condolences to his wife Anita (Lulu) and all his family. Although in recent times he was no longer involved in our operations, we are reflecting on his role in creating a robust charity that remains focused on promoting sustainable farming, and reconnecting people with the wider countryside.

The CRT is determined to continue what Robin started. We hope that this organisation will stand as a living and adaptable legacy to his lifelong belief that the natural world needs both a warrior and a guardian to ensure its future in an increasingly uncertain world.

We intend to honour Robin’s lifelong devotion to the cause with a lasting memorial. We will take time to consider the most appropriate way of doing this. For all of us who knew Robin, or were inspired by his passion for the natural world, this is a moment to pause for thought before redoubling our collective efforts to stand up for the countryside.
