Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

We want to say a huge thank you to all CRT volunteers who work tirelessly across our farms to help us protect and regenerate our precious countryside.

We couldn’t do it without you and we appreciate every one of you.

We really need our volunteers as they help us to understand our farms better, says CRT Volunteer Manager Hannah Bosence.

“They are the eyes and ears, helping us with wildlife surveys which in turn let us know if there are things we can do to help the species on site,” she says.

Hannah explains volunteers are also able to carry out practical work that our farmers don't have time to do.

For instance, normally a farmer may look to trim back a hedge with their tractor and flail. A quick solution when you've got a lot of hedges.

However, with a band of volunteers trained in the traditional skill of hedgelaying, we are able to care for the hedges in a way which looks after the longer-term health of the hedge and is an improvement to the farm's wildlife,” she says.

Did you know there are also lots of benefits for volunteers too?

Volunteering is a wonderful thing to do for many reasons, says Hannah.

“There is a physical aspect to it, and some of the volunteers say it's better than a gym membership.

“You'll learn new skills with both formal and informal training, understand more about wildlife and its relationship with farming practices, develop a connection both with your local area and the other volunteers.
