Woodland Adventure

The stunning woods provide a haven for minibeasts, mammals and a selection of native birds. Children will have the opportunity to get beneath the leaf litter to hunt for minibeasts, learn about insect anatomy and who eats who! Our bird hide provides cover for the children to learn about the birds that call the woods home for all or part of the year. Will your pupils become Woodland Adventurers?

Reception Class

Spend a day in the woods and discover its many hidden treasures. Explore the sights, smells and sounds on a sensory trail and fill your nature cuff with woodland souvenirs. Find our what minibeasts are hidden in plants and leaf litter and create a bug hotel to take home.

Years 1 & 2

Do you know your Oak from your Beech tree? Learn how to identify trees from their leaves, twigs and bark and discover why trees are so important. Find out what creatures great and small call the woodland their home and what they need to survive. Gather some woodland treasures and create a lasting memory of your woodland experience.

Years 3-6

Identify three microhabitats in the woodland and carry out a minibeast survey in each. Learn how to use ID cards and classification trees to identify the creatures. Find out what birds frequent the woodland and learn how their beaks give us a clue to what they eat. Learn which animals are predators and prey and create a woodland food chain.

What We Do

The CRT promotes nature-friendly farming to help reverse biodiversity decline and combat climate change. We believe nature is integral to good farming and we protect, promote and regenerate our land and all life on it. We put our philosophy into practice on over 2,000 acres of working farms, small-holdings and woodland across England.
Slow-worms – the gardener’s best friend

The UK has 6 native reptile species including the curious slow-worm (Anguis fragilis). Although serpent-like in appearance, slow-worms are in fact limbless lizards and an amazing example of de-evolution.
